Treatment generalization and efficacy are critically dependent on engaging the family in a working alliance. This presentation addresses the principles and practices of forming and sustaining ties with families on behalf of their children's development. The vicissitudes of relationships not infrequently require us to be flexible, serve the "greater good" and "stand there and pay attention!" This presentation translates ideas to action, illustrated with case material by an occupational therapist whose practice incorporates relationship based, mental health informed principles and fine-tuned regulatory methodology.
